This May, we’ll host our first Web Summit outside of Europe in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Keep an eye on all our news and updates with the Web Summit Rio blog!

Rio de Janeiro is one of Latin America’s most vibrant startup ecosystems. That’s why we’re excited to launch Web Summit Rio, and look forward to seeing everyone there in 2023.

In April of this year, the Miami Herald wrote that “Latin America is the fastest-growing region for startups in the world”. The data speaks for itself. Brazil, of course, is the driver of most of this growth. According to the latest available data on Crunchbase, 21 of South America’s 27 known unicorns are Brazilian.

In 2021 alone, US$9.4 billion in venture capital was invested in Brazilian startups – a more than threefold increase from 2020. And it’s for all of these reasons and more that we have agreed to host our first-ever Web Summit outside of Europe: Web Summit Rio, taking place in Rio de Janeiro from May 1-4, 2023.

It’s time South America had its own global gathering of the tech community. It’s time the tech world came to South America, and that they did so once a year. And we think there’s no better city in South America to host a tech conference than Rio. We hope to see you there in 2023.

The team at Web Summit is also looking forward to announcing more regional Web Summits around the world in 2024 and 2025. We hope in particular to launch an event in Africa in the coming years.
