Web Summit Rio celebrates emerging businesses making a positive difference in the world. Here are 10 Impact startups from our network. 

At Web Summit Rio, we’re dedicated to achieving the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). That’s why we’re celebrating Impact startups, the emerging companies trying to make a positive impact on their communities, industries and ecosystems.

We want to shine a spotlight on the startups within our network that are striving to achieve the UN SDGs.

Here’s a list of some of the Impact-focused startups joining us in Rio de Janeiro this April:

Rentbrella

Rentbrella is the world’s largest “umbrella sharing” company, present in São Paulo, New York, London and other cities. It has more than 800 stations and 50 thousand umbrellas, serving companies such as Unimed, Petrobras, Nubank, SAP, Boticário, Mercado Libre, Sicredi, IBM, and Prologis.

Rentbrella uses technology to create innovative solutions for consumption and disposal, fostering valuable connections between people, companies and cities.

VoxCell BioInnovation

VoxCell provides human-like tissue solutions for oncology research and the drug development industry by creating 3D vascularized cancer tissue models. Its 3D bioprinter uses a state-of-the-art laser with a process that crosslinks bioink with extreme precision, producing incredible high-resolution 3D bioprinted tissues. 

TakeCarbon

TakeCarbon is the first fully open and decentralized environment for promoting impactful initiatives, revolutionizing the way carbon credits are tokenized, traded and retired on a global scale through Web3 technology applications.

TakeCarbon views carbon footprint offsetting as a journey rather than an end goal, designed to induce real change in the lives of entire populations.

PlurieBR

PlurieBR is the first SaaS platform in Brazil that is dedicated to managing diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. Its goal is to transform the corporate environment by mapping metrics in real-time and educating employees with targeted actions.

The team comprises 40 experts who offer integrated, targeted solutions to monitor institutions in real time.

One Tribe

One Tribe is a climate action platform that enables businesses and customers to reduce their carbon footprint and make a positive environmental impact. Its climate action technology helps businesses certify their environmental impact by funding nature-based solutions and verified carbon offset projects.

AntiAlgas Soluções Ambientais

AntiAlgas Soluções Ambientais designs and manufactures ultrasound equipment to control the proliferation of algae, cyanobacteria, golden mussels and aquatic parasites.

The ultrasonic anti-algae system emits ultrasound waves that create a sound pressure band below the water surface, approximately 25cm deep, interfering with the algae’s buoyancy system and preventing it from reaching the water surface to receive sun and carry out photosynthesis.

Reeciclar

Reeciclar is a cleantech company working to improve the low recycling rates in Brazil. It was founded in 2020. Reeciclar is both a recycling and a packaging company, enabling it to work on solutions that cover complete cycles of polyethylene products. 

Bússola

Bússola offers technology to organizations that transform society, whether in the private, voluntary, or public sector. Bússola’s solutions provide end-to-end visibility for private social investment (ISP), allowing clients to manage social projects and monitor results and voluntary activities financed with private resources.

Impacto

The Impacto platform is an environmental, social and governance solution for companies. It connects donors to social projects that have serious work to give them visibility, structure and transparency. The platform acts as a bridge between projects and communities, helping to manage resources effectively and generate the maximum impact possible.

Labnow

Labnow’s platform connects laboratories to healthcare providers and patients, facilitating vaccine administration and test collection directly from the comfort of customers’ homes. The company partners with laboratories to integrate existing processes and expand its reach.
